NEW LONDON, WI – Baseball and community enthusiasts in New London building their own ‘Field of Dreams’ at historic Hatten Stadium received a boost of more than $20,000 last year thanks to a challenge grant offered by Community First Credit Union.

Ongoing efforts to upgrade the baseball field and to preserve and renovate the stadium as a community venue benefitted when Community First stepped up to the plate with a $10,000 matching grant. It attracted more than $10,000 worth of engraved brick paver sales for use in the stadium plaza and to fund improvements at the unique stone-walled stadium built in the 1930s.

“It was neat that Community First wanted to do something to give back to the community,” said Mike Frederick, Hatten Stadium Foundation board president. Upgrades to the baseball field were completed last fall but fundraising is continuing to replace inefficient lights installed in 1950 and refurbish and expand the outdated grandstands and bathrooms.

“It’s a beautiful old stone structure -- a landmark in the community,” said Chad Hoerth, New London’s parks and recreation director. “The foundation is really committed to renovating the stadium, bringing it back to its glory and making it a jewel for those who play baseball in the community.”

“We’re thrilled to be able to help renovate the community landmark in Hatten Park for future generations to enjoy,” said Amanda Secor, Community First senior vice president, marketing-public relations.

For more information or to make a donation, go to www.hattenstadium.org or call Mike Frederick at (920) 359-0784 or Chad Hoerth at (920) 982-8500, ext. 116. Amanda Secor can be reached at (920) 968-6179 or Amanda.secor@communityfirstcu.org
