Book Review By Jennifer Nummerdor Manager at Barnes & Noble
Trouble With Money The Berenstain Bears are back with another important lesson to learn! Brother & Sister Bear love spending the money they get from friends and family at the Bear County Mall, but when they waste all of their pennies on an arcade game Papa Bear decides it is time for them to understand the value of money. As expected, this adventure with the Berenstain Bears seamless weaves important lessons into a fun story for big and little kids. Children will learn the importance of working hard to earn their money, to save what they earn, and to be generous toward others. The best part of this story is the opportunity for families to talk about and teach smart money habits.
Benny’s Pennies Benny has five pennies and each family member wants him to spend them on something different: something beautiful, something to good to eat, and something to wear. Will he be able to find a gift for everyone? Children will love the rhythmic refrain as Benny sets out with his brand new pennies to buy something special from each of his neighbors. The “cut-paper collage” illustrations are a unique addition to the story, adding a textural, 3-D effect. Benny’s generosity sets wonderful example for young children making this a great read-aloud for parents who want to start talking to their children about money.
