Call for Candidates

As a member-owned financial cooperative, Community First is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected directly by its members. Serving on the Board is an opportunity to represent fellow member-owners and help guide the Credit Union’s long-term success. The Board provides oversight of management, ensures compliance with fiduciary and State/Federal regulatory requirements, and helps align the Credit Union’s strategic direction with member interests.

There will be four Board seats up for election this cycle. While current directors plan to run again, we strongly encourage all qualified members interested in contributing their perspective and leadership to express their interest.

Members interested in being considered for nomination should submit their qualifications to the Nominating Committee by 5:00 PM on Sunday, February 15, 2026, using the link below.

Being a CFCU Board member is a wonderful opportunity to serve the credit union and your fellow member-owners. Directors are volunteers and do not receive compensation for their service.

Board responsibilities include:
  • Determining the strategic direction of the credit union
  • Monitoring performance against the strategic plan and annual plan/budget
  • Ensuring the safety and soundness of the credit union
  • Serving on committees to facilitate board oversight
The Board meets on the third Monday of each month from 4-6 pm. You should be prepared to devote a minimum of 5-8 hours per month to serving on the Board. Directors are expected to attend monthly board meetings, committee meetings, education sessions, and CFCU’s annual strategic planning meeting.

As a Board member, your commitments would include:
  • Three-year term beginning in May of 2026
  • Monthly board meetings (third Monday of each month 4-6 pm)
  • Committee meetings (minimum 3x per year and additional as needed)
  • Planning session (up to 3 days per year)
  • Preparing for meetings (reviewing board/committee packets)
  • Training, education, and attending conferences and webinars
The ideal Board candidate has:
  • Experience in roles focused on governance, financial performance, and forecasting as it pertains to implementing strategy and meeting fiduciary and regulatory requirements
  • The spirit of volunteerism and a demonstrated understanding of supporting all members-owners and the communities we serve
  • The desire and ability to cultivate community partnerships
  • Financial and business acumen
  • Comfort with technology
  • Willingness to act independently and objectively

Requirements:
  • Must be a member of CFCU for at least one year and actively use CFCU products and services
  • Be at least 18 years of age before the election
  • Cannot now or in the past have been an employee of CFCU or its subsidiary
  • Cannot be a family member of an existing employee of CFCU or its subsidiary
  • Cannot be employed by a competing financial services or investment services company and do not live in a household where someone is employed by one of the aforementioned competing services companies
  • Must be a member in good standing of CFCU – no delinquency on any loans or have ever caused a loss of any kind to the credit union
Upon receiving your submission, the Nominating Committee will confirm that you meet eligibility requirements for service as a Director. As part of the application process, you will be asked to provide consent for CFCU to conduct a background and credit check. Eligible candidates will participate in an interview, and the Nominating Committee will make the final determination for a slate of candidates.
