King Ride 2020 offers boost for veterans

Fill the bike trailer.More than $5,000 cash and four pallets of personal items were delivered August 29 to U.S. military veterans and spouses living at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, thanks in part to a boost from Community First Credit Union member-owners.

The 21st annual King Benefit Ride by the Fox Valley H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) drew 131 participants. Community First member-owners donated $210 to the cause and two pallets of items that were collected at our network of 26 branches throughout the region.
“This is an extremely difficult time for all of us and even more for our veterans who are in lockdown,” said David Brunover, director Fox Valley H.O.G.
“Residents at King have not been able to see their families for months,” Brunover said. Some of the funds will be used to buy electronics like iPads that will allow veterans to reach out to their families.
Community First has operated a branch serving veterans on the King campus in Waupaca County since 1991. Richard Thomson, a former employee and member involved in the effort expressed his motivation for giving back: “We’ve always got to support those that gave us the freedom that we enjoy.”

Harley owners and Community First team up for veterans

Community First Credit Union returns as a sponsor of the Fox Valley Harley Owners Group (HOG) Ride to Benefit the Veterans at King. The proceeds from this 21st annual ride provide personal items for veterans who reside at King.
Riders will leave from Appleton Harley Davidson on Saturday, August 29 at 11 a.m. and make the trip together to the WI Veteran’s Home at King. The good news is that you don’t need to be a Harley owner to participate!  You don’t even have to be a Community First member-owner to help.
Thank you to all those who brought donations of personal items for the veterans!  Although the deadline for personal item drop-off has ended, you may still make a monetary donation to any of our branch locations between now and August 29 to support this cause!  Results of the campaign will be shared in a recap story following the August 29 event.
With a Community First branch at King and thousands of members who are veterans and/or motorcycle enthusiasts, we are proud to be a part of this effort.
