Scholarship recipient juggles work and motherhood

Starting in mid-July, the daily schedule for Oshkosh’s Kelsey Faust-Kubale gets a little more hectic.

Since being appointed in February 2022, the wife/mother has served as full-time clerk for the Town of Clayton in Winnebago County while also studying Human Resources at Fox Valley Technical College. She is on track to graduate in 2025 with a degree she hopes will advance her career, including the possibility of becoming a town, village or city administrator in the future.

Furthermore, deepening her knowledge about hiring and HR practices will help her assist the town’s administrator in delivering services to town officials, employees and residents.

“The municipal professions are already under great scrutiny, and I want to ensure that all proper processes and procedures are followed,” she said. “By studying best practices and arming myself with greater knowledge, not only will I be a greater asset to my department but it also opens up other avenues to serve in the public sector.”

She is grateful that the $500 Community First scholarship will cover most of her course fees and textbooks for this fall and not require going further into debt for her education this fall. “This is money that my family will no longer have to come up with out of pocket, allowing us to free up funds for child care and pay some towards my student loans,” said Kelsey.

“Thanks to Community First for this generous scholarship. Without it, pursuing my degree would be much more difficult and financially stressful for my family.”

Fall Scholarship Applications Open Sept. 3

Applying for the Community First-sponsored $500 scholarship through the FVTC Foundation each semester is free and easy. No essay required, only references from two staff instructors. Applications for the Fall scholarships are being accepted Sept. 3-24.

Any student enrolled and attending FVTC classes while pursuing an associate degree, technical diploma or an apprenticeship is eligible for an FVTC Foundation scholarship. Last spring, the FVTC Foundation awarded 417 scholarships from 786 applications received.
