Community First is one of 14 regional credit unions co-sponsoring the scholarships. A chapter Scholarship Award Committee consisting of credit union employees will review all applications and select the three recipients based on responses to essay and community involvement questions.

Applicants must have an account in their name at one of the participating credit unions and submit the essay and responses by the March 31 deadline. The essay (350-500 words) involves writing about a time when you faced a financial challenge and address the following: How did you address this challenge, and what lessons did you learn that could help you manage your personal financial decisions as you journey to college?

The community involvement question seeks specific examples of community service, leadership experiences and initiatives you have taken to support your peers and neighbors and address the following: Credit unions are built on the premise of people helping people. How do you embody this principle in your community? How do these experiences align with credit union values and what impact have they had on you?

Scholarship winners will be notified by April 11 and receive them at the chapter’s April 21 meeting.
