Community First engaged in ringing in the holidays

Credit union’s people-helping-people philosophy supports variety of regional community events

Tuesday, November 19, 2019
Community First Credit Union will ring in Thanksgiving and Christmas in style this year, offering an opportunity for members to share the meaning of the holiday season with loved ones and the local communities they call home.
Every year Community First chooses to get involved with a wide variety of nonprofits and community causes throughout Northeastern Wisconsin where our 139,000-plus member-owners live or work through sponsorships, promotions or by encouraging volunteerism.

We are excited to share that Community First is a new sponsor of the Santa Scamper, a mile-long run-walk that leads off the 49th annual Downtown Appleton Christmas Parade on Nov. 26. Up to 1,500 participants will provide an energetic kickoff just ahead of the 7 pm parade enjoyed by upwards of 80,000 people each year.

Also new this year are sponsorship of a month-long holiday celebration involving Christmas lights at the Green Bay Botanical Garden to get everyone in the mood, a Dec. 14 downtown Waupaca Yuletide Trail event and a Dec. 17 Salvation Army bell-ringing challenge in Manitowoc.

Community engagement is an important part of the credit union people-helping-people philosophy. Community First offers high quality and affordable financial services but also encourages members and its 500-plus employees to be involved locally and contribute to the sense of community and quality of life enjoyed by all!

Here are more details about some of the upcoming holiday events sponsored by Community First:

Nov. 26                       Santa Scamper, College Avenue downtown Appleton. Starts at 6:40 pm at State Street/W. College, leading off the Downtown Appleton Christmas Parade (7 pm). Runners and walkers proceed east 10 blocks to Drew Street, finishing in City Park.

Thru Nov. 30               Police Lights of Christmas, Community First Credit Union branches are accepting donations to help provide more than $60,000 in gift cards and holiday blessing bags to 25 police agencies throughout Northeast Wisconsin. During December, officers will hand out gift cards and more to struggling individuals and families to brighten their holidays and helping neighbors in need.
Nov. 29-Dec. 30          Green Bay Botanical Garden’s WPS Garden of Lights, featuring over 300,000 twinkling lights in holiday displays. Community First is a new sponsor and members will have a chance to receive free or discounted tickets.

Nov. 29-Dec. 23          Oshkosh Celebration of Lights involves 1.2 miles of holiday sights and sounds through Menominee Park, including Santa’s Workshop (sponsored by Community First) which attracted more than 6,000 children last year.
Dec. 6                          Rudolph Run is a four-block, family-friendly run-walk along Wisconsin Avenue leading off Neenah’s downtown holiday celebration: A Very Neenah Christmas. Community First has been the long-time sponsor of the Rudolph Run that starts at 6 pm in Shattuck Park and ends in Gateway Plaza at the community Christmas tree.
Dec. 7                          A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols, Appleton Boychoir Concert with Copper Street Brass (performances at 1 and 4 pm), Lawrence Memorial Chapel. Community First is the Boychoir Season Sponsor.
Dec. 13                        NewVoices Christmas-Light of the World concert, 7:30 pm, St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay. Community First has been a long-standing season sponsor of NewVoices, a volunteer choral music group based in the Fox Cities.
Dec. 14                        Waupaca Yuletide Trail/Cookie Walk is a first-year event organized by the Waupaca Historical Society and Waupaca Area Arts & Culture Network. Community First is a cookie tin sponsor for the downtown holiday event (10 am-5 pm) featuring a cookie walk, family activities, crafts, stories, Santa and a community sing-along.

Dec. 17                        Manitowoc Salvation Army Battle of the Bells, a friendly fundraising competition from 9 am to 5 pm to benefit the Salvation Army in Manitowoc County. Community First bell ringers will staff the red kettle at the Pick-N-Save/Copps store near the Manitowoc branch while other financials will do the same at various locations. The kettle with the most money will get bragging rights but the real winner will be Manitowoc County recipients of Salvation Army services.

Dec. 21                        NewVoices, Christmas-Light of the World concert, 2 pm and 7:30 pm, Lawrence Memorial Chapel, Appleton.
