Three $1,000 college scholarships offered by area credit unions, applications due March 13

$500 Community First FVTC scholarship deadline is Feb. 11

Friday, January 24, 2020

Community First is one of 14 Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Union members co-sponsoring three $1,000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors this spring.

The annual chapter scholarships are awarded to active credit union members pursuing post-high school education next fall. Applications are due March 13 and include an essay regarding financial literacy/planning for a successful financial future along with information on the applicant’s community service activities.

Winners will be notified by March 27 and scholarships awarded April 6 during a Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions meeting at Pullman’s/Trolley Square, 629 S. Olde Oneida St., Appleton. Open the document in the column to the right for complete scholarship contest rules and an application form.

All three 2019 chapter scholarship recipients were Community First members.

Community First Credit Union also sponsors two $500 scholarships through the Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, one each during the spring and fall semester. It’s free and easy to apply with only one form to fill out and no essay required.

To apply a student must be enrolled and attending FVTC classes for an associate degree, technical diploma or apprenticeship program. Two instructor references are required.

Last fall, the Foundation received 840 applications and – following review by the FVTC Scholarship Review Committee – 325 scholarships were awarded to deserving students. The $500 Community First scholarship was given in November to Stacy Yang of Appleton, who is pursuing a business management degree in hopes of someday opening her own restaurant or small business.
