Widgets Make Your Life Easier

person with phone in hand.

There are times when a digital tool has been around for a while, but it never rose to the top of your "must figure out" list. Widgets can easily fall into that category. Understanding what widgets are and how they work will help you see how they might be a worthy addition to your digital toolkit.

What in the World is a Widget?

Widgets can be displayed on desktops, but the most common use is on phones and tablets. They show you current information from your favorite apps at a glance. Widgets provide a quick way to access data within the app without actually opening up the app.

A good example is a calendar widget that shows you a preview of upcoming events without revealing your entire calendar. Another useful widget has a weather display that can pull in many details, such as temperature, air quality, and multi-day forecasts. Having a battery display is also a popular addition for smartphone users.

As you review different widgets, it's good to note that many widgets are free, but premium versions may charge a monthly fee.

What can a Widget Do?

Because most widgets are a mini-program designed to do one thing well, they usually don't do more than one task. Once you download a widget, you can also move it around. The widget might load into your home screen on your phone, but from there, you can adjust and move them to your desired page. Some have different size options so you can determine just how much of your screen' real estate' you want to give up for the widget view. Some widgets allow color adjustments and further changes to suit your style and readability needs. Depending on your device, some widgets will stack, giving you a rotator view. No matter how much the widget allows you to adjust or change it, the biggest asset of a widget is its quick and easy functionality.

Can a Widget Help Me Keep Track of My Finances?

Yes! An essential key to managing your finances is keeping track of your account balance(s). Unfortunately, out of sight can equal out of mind. When your accounts aren't viewed regularly, unplanned purchases and even planned expenses can sneak up on you. Before you know it, your spending can throw the balance you expected out of whack with reality. Because widgets offer you increased and easy visibility into your accounts, they can be a fantastic tool to help you manage your finances.
